Beth's Favorites #18

Here is one of the best self-realisation stories I have ever read. Definitely in my top ten mainstream bestsellers. Love, Eat, and Pray is a wonderful story about a woman who decides, after a messy divorce, to go into the world and find herself, spiritually, carnally, and hedonistically. This exploration is through the vehicle of spending three years abroad, one in Italy, where food and companions can bring all the hedonistic pleasures in the world. One year in India where the spiritual is weaved into the daily life and some of the most profound lessons can be learned from some of the most spiritually aware people on the planet, and finally a year in Indonesia, where the environment is charged with sensuous and spiritual energy both, and love is amost inevitable. This book and this journey, expressed with a colloquial exuberance that is both charming and incredibly discriptive, is a must read. It is also been made into a new movie featuring Julia Roberts, that is just now being released.

    This is a fascinating story, the thought that it is just another self-involved all-about-me type of book almost made me not read it. But I did, and I found the witty and self-depreciating nature of the protagonist brought the right lessons out into view and made the entire book an experience of realization for the reader too. Good stuff!
