Here is the first week of the new month, so we should get started with something cool enough to lighten the summer heat. This series is probably marketed as a YA series, (young adult) but it is really a crackin' good story for readers of any age. To go down and find another world under ground has long been a theme for many books over the years, well here it is done wonderfully by a master storyteller.

The WWII covert operations became quite sophisticated and grew into the cold war, this fact powered a great number of spy thrillers. Here we have some of the best of the best of this genre. John le Carré is the pentultimate spy thriller writer, and here are his works.

There are fantasy's and then there are fantasy's, epic stories as might be told by bards like 'The Lord of the Rings' and light fun fantasy, of which this probably is the premier example. The Fablehaven series is the wonder of the human imagination, coupled with the folk dreams of the western world. Truly enjoyable reads of the first water.

Next we have some stories told by a master writer. They are fantasy/paranormal tales of dreams and nightmares that haunt the human spirit. The first series, 'Inheritors Cycle' tells the story of a princess, destined never to be a queen, trained into the deadliest assasin ever known. In the 'Negotiator' series, well, let us just remind you of the 'negotiation' scene played by Bruce Willis in the space liner, from the movie 'The Fifth Element'. Remember how that went? And in the 'Walker Papers' the tale is of a shaman living in today's world and finding herself in the position of being the only one to save the world on a fairly regular basis. Great stuff!

Finally this week we have a series about the first people in the Americas, stone age early crossers of the Bering land bridge during the last ice age. Here we follow a tribe as it tries to survive in a land filled with megafauna and geologic threats. These stories of the people anthropologists know as the Clovis people are well researched and well written.

Ok, some great stuff here, I thought the Sarabande stuff was fascinating, and the Roderick Gordon series was excellent. I have always loved the work of C. E. Murphy.
