August Week #4

The start of a new week also means a new selection of authors to read! This week we will start with a thriller writer who specializes in the Dan Brown style 'ancient conspiracies' and 'lost archeological treasures' type of stories. The are fascinating works with twisting plotlines that usually follow a conspiracy or development in a timeline from the ancient or at least antique past through to the present. It also would appear that any conspiracy that has lasted that long is a deadly one to stumble onto.

Our second selection is an author that all should be familiar with, even more than Louis L'amour, Zane Grey has epitomized the american western writer. From the turn of the century until almost it's close, this wonderful author wrote about the American experience, and especially, the American old west. His works are interesting, and are suprisingly non-formulaic. Good reads worth a look, they are engrossing even for those who would normally not give the genre a second look, if they would just give them a chance.

Next we have an author who goes by the psudonymn of Radclyffe, who is actually the surgeon and writer by the name of L. L. Raand. These books are romantic thrillers in which the protagonist is thrown into a working situation with another, and in the midst of dealing with great stresses and threats, falls in love with them. In the 'Honor' series for instance, the protagonist is a Secret Service agent who is assigned to the protection detail of the Presidents daughter who is being stalked by a extreemly smart, capeable, madman, and when she assumes the duty as team leader for the protection squad, her efforts are complicated by her and the 'protectee' falling in love with one another. CAUTION: homophobics alert! These books have lesbian situations and romance, proceed only if you are open minded!

The third installment in today's line up is a thriller writer that has done some amazing work with the less sexy sides of modern life, financials, law, accounting, things that seem so mundane, but in his hands become the stuff of murder, mayhem, and lots of action. Conspiracies, racketteering, fraud, and just plain eliminating the competition have never been so fascinatingly done as they are in these very good reads.

Our final selection this week is some scifi by one of the modern writers who is well on his way to becoming a master of the genre. Winner of multiple nominations and awards since 2000, this writer is recognised as being the best regarded author in scifi and fantasy of the newest generation of writers. His works follow completely unexpected but logical developments that our new technologies, their logical extension into the future, and their probable effects on human society will have. Fascinating stuff, fun reads, and that sense of 'wonder' that scifi brings to it's fans are all part of this wonderful author's abilities when crafting a story.
