Today we have some excellent fiction to talk about, so let's get started! For our first selection this week, we have some great scifi by one of the writers writers of the genre. Generally hailed by all his peers, Eric Brown writes mostly 'hard' scifi that is both humanly approachable characters, and delightfully unlooked for unique concepts in the field. For instance, his Bengal Station series is a Noir detective mystery set inside of a hard science fiction story. Very interesting stuff indeed.

Our second selection this week is the books of an exceptional writer of urban fantasy as it bleeds across dimension into full fantasy and back again. Her stories like the Divine series, in which a 'regular' girl from Oklahoma finds herself in another, parallel world in which she is a goddess, one who must marry a centaur and is hated by her worshipers, she must try to find a way home or else! Or her stories like the Goddess series where the Greek Gods are still around, and still playing and dabbling in the lives of mortals. There is also the House of Night series, in which a young vampire must go to school to learn how to be an adult vamp at a school of the same name as the series, for in her universe there have always been vampires, but not all survive the Change, hence the school. Her works all show a blurring back and forth between our reality and alternate ones alongside and make for some very entertaining stories.

Next we have the selection of a fantasy trilogy about a fantastic world that was known as the world of the eleven empires. As the story begins however, the freedom of these eleven empires to rule themselves has been taken away by the conquering Warlord who maintains an iron grip over the world. The story follows three lowly individuals who are bound together to become their peoples liberators. Great epic fantasy fiction in the best traditions of the genre style.

Third this week is some crime thrillers from one of the best in genre. Tess Gerritsen has been writing tense, tight, coming-at-you stories for many years, it is not unknown for her books to make you suddenly jerk and physically react to a scene as it unfolds. A powerfull writer, she usually likes to write one-on stories, but even she became enamoured of her characters Rizzoli & Isles, and ended up writing a series about these two favorites.

Finally, our last selection is some of the most unique mystery\suspense that I have ever encountered. This series about the not-so-inscrutable Chief Inspector Chen Cao of the Peoples Republic Of China are very culturally correct, and fascinating in their plots. In a country with a billion citizens it behoves the government to have some great detectives, and the greatest of all is Chief Inspector Chen Cao, and these are his cases.
